Only been for lunch, but I go as often as I can. Food is good, prices are great, service is amazing.

We've tried a lot of sushi places since moving to Salt Lake a few months ago and we love Hi Sushi. Everything is fresh and they have a wide variety of rolls. We still haven't found a fried roll that compares to the one at our fave sushi place back home but Hi Sushi's fried rolls are by far better than other place we have tried in Salt Lake.

Excellent Sushi. I go out to east Sushi maybe once a week at least and this is definitely one of my favorite spots in SLC. Really clean and friendly atmosphere, and fast and friendly service. Ask for the "no-name" which isn't on the menu, it's definitely a house special and something unique to this establishment. The other non-sushi items on the menu are great. Some local brews would be nice options, but drink options are plentiful regardless. Good for a date location, small business crowds, and friendly gatherings.

I really love sushi, but just felt rather meh about my trip to Hi Sushi. I had the seaweed salad (it was the best part of my experience) and a Vegas roll. The Vegas roll was good, but nothing special. The prices do seem too high for the quality of food. The biggest downfall of Hi Sushi is the atmosphere. The staff is friendly, but the decor is rather tacky. It kind of felt like I was eating at Village Inn or another very bland American diner.

Very friendly and very nice. Fresh sushi. Ask for extra spicy on their spicy tuna for an extra kick. Was in town on business from NJ and this was definitely great quality food. Good variety on the lunch menu. In the corner of a strip mall next to AAA for those taking a cab there. Yum!

Loved the place. Totally beats big chains or even the more "popular" sushi places all the hipsters go to. It's not only locally ones but the husband and wife prep your sushi and serve you. They were sweet and everything we got was good. We literally had 9 rolls, the teriyaki bowl (don't expect it to be a traditional mixed in bowl, but the presentation was nice) and the noodles (delicious and the veggies cooked just right). Also they have fun drinks you don't normally get at restaurants. You know....those cool Asian drinks you see at the market but are always too lazy or scared to try. Great place. Oh and prices were good, not 18$ a roll. And I didn't have to wait till Monday to get half off like at ichibans. I call that a thursday success!!

Love Hi Sushi for lunch. Fast enough to be in and out in an hour with time to spare to grab Starbucks across the lot. The Citrus Salmon roll is AMAZING. Other favorite rolls: The French Bean, Wasatch, and the Red Dragon are fantastic. I've been going there since they opened and I've never been disappointed. I highly recommend them for lunch or dinner.

Since the place at the bottom of the hill... that's named after a city in Japan... has gone... well... downhill... to the bottom, HI Sushi is now the BEST sushi joint in the neighborhood. We've been to Hi Sushi several times since my first review and it just seems to get better and better with each visit. The fish is always super fresh and the rolls, sashimi and nigiri are all beautifully prepared and presented. The service is excellent and the prices are reasonable. I love this place!

The food here is always fresh and full of flavor. I wouldn't compliment much about the interior and the surrounding atmosphere, but it does feel comfortable and clean. Although the food may be a bit pricy, I'm guessing it's worth it when you're served fresh food with care^^

I was really looking forward to eating here and had great expectations because of all the rave reviews but sadly I'm disappointed. I ordered the Large portion hot sake, chicken karaage, and the baked halibut roll (the waitress' recommendation). The sake was first, and it was really warm and good (although the portion for large did not seem large at all). My biggest problem here is the chicken karaage. It came out like Chinese Sweet and Sour chicken that you see in Chinese buffets but instead of the bright red sauce it had sweet chili sauce on the side. That is NOT how you make chicken karaage at all. They used chicken breast instead of dark meat so the pieces were all dry. I suspect potato starch was not used and it wasn't marinated in soy, ginger, garlic, and sake because it did not have a nice golden brown color that is inherent in this dish. Their rolls were also small. The baked halibut was $9.56 (after the 20% promo) and I felt the price was not justifiable at all. Just add another dollar and you could've gotten one of the combo/bento meals on the menu. On another note the fried sweet potato and onions that came with the chicken were nice and crispy. Sadly, that isn't enough to make me come back here again.

I go here once a week. Yuri is the Sushi Chef and he runs the place with his wife Cho. The food is consistently outstanding. Fresh and delicious always. Our favorites are the Triple Shrimp Roll and the Samurai. My dad loves the fresh Hamachi. We've gone to other fancier sushi places around Salt Lake and the taste is never the same as Hi Sushi.

Excellent sushi and service. Very fresh and friendly service. We have had their food twice and really enjoyed it both times. Definitely our favorite in SLC and much better in quality than the fancier sushi places in downtown (Takashi or something like that). The location is right off foothill in a shopping center so nothing glamorous but fantastic food and service.

I am currently at the restaurant and the worst sushi experience ever. The fish is not very fresh and the sushi rolls taste funky. Not ever come back. Seriouly BLACK LIST!!!

Hi owner, Yuri crafts beautifully balanced nigiri and sushi rolls as well as other expertly crafted dishes. Their sushi is both savory (umami) and balanced (not too much rice.) Yuri's wife, Jo manages the servers, service is always excellent without being intrusive. The environment is open, clean and esthetically pleasing. These sushi chefs are pleasant, welcoming and most important, experts at their craft.

My husband thought it was really good, I thought it was ok. The food didn't look like the pictures at all and some of the ingredients were different. The 20% off for happy hours is only for rolls that are around $13 bucks. For the price I would pass.

Tasty sushi, at an affordable rate. Clean a comfortable, plenty of booths available. I like taking my kids here because it is not so fancy and they have pot stickers.

Dinner is a great time to stop by for your fill of some great nigiri Sushi, l dream about the ama ebi and toro tuna when they have it. It cranks it up to the next level. The mochi green tea ice cream is great especially on a hot day.

I've only ever come for lunch but I really like Hi Sushi. It's not fancy but the food is consistently good and the service is always fast and friendly. On a few occasions where I was providing a sushi party at work, they have prepared large platters of a variety of rolls that everyone thought were great. An easy recommend.

I was pleasantly surprised by my first visit. I got sushi takeout. From the time I ordered, I only waited 10 minutes. Caterpillar roll was quite nice. Oyako don (Chicken and egg stew) was pretty authentic. The hot dish came with a salad and miso soup, which weren't anything to get excited about--probably just fillers. I got a few sashimi/nigiri items (aji and uni) for my husband who is very adventurous. All fish were fresh and tasty. I will be back. Prices are reasonable (for sushi) as the location is excellent for picking up dinner on my way home from work.

Say Hello to Hi-Sushi. I was a first- time skeptic made into a believer by a combination of good food and service. Skeptic because it's a sushi place in a strip mall, unfortunately located next to an insurance company and discount clothing store. Also skeptic, because when I first walked in, there were only two customers. Also skeptic because of the name. Hi-Sushi? What does that mean? Hmmm. Anyway... This could easily be your long lost Japanese grandmother's house minus the traditional decor. Which, if you're going for traditional Japanese ambience, probably not gonna find it here. If you're lucky enough to have Ethan as your server, you won't be let down. He's great and on the ball and recommended the Oyako Don. Skeptical again, still, I tried it, and was not disappointed. Delicious. The spicy Hamachi roll which I also ordered , could have used more kick...but I like things very spicy, and that can often be tough to gauge. Overall great lunch place. My review is strictly based on a lunch experience, and couldn't ask for anything more, all things considered. I will be back if it's convenient. But can't say I would travel from afar to come here. But, do eat here if you're looking for sushi in a pinch, and happen to be in the area. And behold........Skeptics make the best believers.

The first time my wife and I ate here it was great. Sushi was fresh and the prices seemed reasonable. The 2nd time we ate there was still pretty good. Since then I have gotten two to-go orders from them and both times were a disaster! First of all, good luck trying to download their menu.. It's a 15mg .pdf file! I have really fast Internet at home and it took me 30mins because it crashed the first time. Anyways, the first to-go they just completely forgot an order which is about the most frustrating thing to get home and realize, and it seemed like the price was higher. Last night, the 2nd take out, I checked my order before I left. But didn't realize they gave me a seaweed salad instead of a squid salad, the sushi rolls seemed really small and I realized I had paid over $30 for two rolls and a some seaweed. Not happy, will not be going back here.

Sushi was fresh. They are serving lunch rolls for dinner (the half size mentioned in another review). Two rolls and gyoza w/tea $25. Hard to find at night, sign isn't lit. Avocado was thin, and was starting to brown in the Cali roll.

    (3)
  • Leslie K.

This review is limited to the one roll I got for take out. The Dragon Roll was awesome, freshly prepared, nice spicy tuna on top, the shrimp tempura in the middle was freshly cooked and the rice just tthe right texture. I will definitely give them another shot.

We drove by this place on our way out of Fort Douglas, and I thought I'd give it a try, what could be more adventurous than ordering Sushi in SLC? The first thing I noticed were the higher than usual lunch prices, which was probably a regional thing, most place I go to offer sushi bento boxes, but I had to order mine off the dinner menu, and it didn't come with anything, just Nigiri, 8 pieces and a roll for 21 bucks, which was crazy expensive, especially since I also had to pay for soup. Most places comp the soup with an order like that, but not this one. I did notice that it was pretty empty, so obviously other people agree. A giant sign on the front window said "Lowest Prices", so maybe it's a good thing I didn't go to any of the other sushi places if they were going to be more expensive than this place. Anyways, I thought the fish itself was about average, nothing special, the two people working, sushi guy and waitress were super friendly and served up my 8 piece/roll fairly quickly and when I ordered another couple pieces of nigiri they also came out quickly. at 6 bucks for 2 pieces, I thought that was a little high, especially during lunch, but I paid it and walked out nearly 40 bucks poorer. I don't exactly know what I expected, but I won't complain about anything at this place, simply because it's SLC and complaining won't do much good. I would probably say it takes more than one trip to really get a feel for a place like this, and since I don't live in SLC, fat chance on that one. But you should definitely give it a try sometime and see what you think.
